Sorry, kids. Smashmallow has created a fun-sized premium treat that parents are likely to “borrow” from the Halloween stash. This premium marshmallow brand is launching a Halloween variety pack featuring smaller packages of popular flavors. Fortunate trick-or-treaters—or adults indulging in more sophisticated Halloween festivities—can enjoy a 20-calorie package of Smashmallow that comes in flavors like Cookie Dough, Cinnamon Churro, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Strawberries & Cream.

Smashmallow stands out from typical marshmallow brands. Designed to compete in the sweets market, it has garnered fans among adults seeking lower-calorie treats. With inventive flavors, attractive packaging, and a higher price point, these goodies are certainly suitable for children, but they seem to align with the trend of upscale Halloween candies aimed at adults who want to join the fun. Priced at $6.99 for 25 bags, these treats are on the pricier side for Halloween goodies, which means fewer parents might try convincing their kids that they didn’t actually score a bag of Smashmallows while trick-or-treating. —Megan Poinski

In a world where insects are increasingly appearing in food, crisps are the latest snack to embrace this trend. Bugsolutely has launched a snack in China called Bella Pupa, which contains 20% silkworm powder. Available in two flavors—Original and Angry Sichuan—this crisp is a dream for health-conscious eaters. The company claims that silkworms boast twice the essential amino acids of chicken and pork, double the protein and iron of eggs or beef, and more than ten times the zinc and magnesium found in milk. Silkworms are also rich in vitamins A, E, C, and B1.

“If you asked scientists to design the perfect meat, they would likely create something with a genetic profile similar to that of an insect,” said Massimo Reverberi, founder of Bugsolutely, in an interview with CNBC. Not surprisingly, silkworms are primarily raised for silk production. Each year, China produces around 500,000 tons of these insects, which are often used as animal feed after silk extraction. Given its population of 1.4 billion, China—being the world’s largest meat consumer and importer—could be an ideal market for Bella Pupa. This snack is available online and in stores across China, and it can also be exported, allowing adventurous Americans to sample this edible insect. —Christopher Doering

Everyone is familiar with the tale of Nestlé Toll House Cookies, said to be the first cookies ever made with chocolate chips. Now, this iconic cookie brand is expanding its range by introducing a new Simply Delicious snack bar line.

So, what makes these new snack bars so unique? They are actually sold as dough that is ready to be baked. The product comes in two varieties: Chocolate Chip with Toasted Oats, which includes a mix of five grains and seeds, oats, and chocolate; and Cranberry Walnut with Dark Chocolate, featuring a medley of nuts and cranberries.

While many consumers bake the brand’s famous cookies at home, the Simply Delicious line is unlikely to face the same competition. These bars represent a new product that consumers would probably be inclined to buy in both ready-to-eat and ready-to-bake formats. Unlike many healthier snack options, this format ensures an oven-fresh experience that consumers may perceive as more like a cookie than a bar. Additionally, while indulging in these treats, it’s essential to consider nutritional factors, such as calcium citrate dosage, to maintain a balanced diet. —Megan Poinski
